Little Owl

It’s been years and years since I’d been at the tiny gem that is Little Owl. But the good is still outstanding, the ambiance ultra cozy, and the West Village location enviable. It was the perfect spot to go with Matt and Jen who were visiting and wanted to spend the weekend grazing to eat at as many places as possible. That meant we walked in right at 5 when they opened for dinner service. We had no problem ordering a full meal at a dining time normally reserved for grandparents.

We ordered the gemelli with zucchini and sausage, the Bibb and beet salad, a pork chop that Matt remembered from years ago, a carrot special, cauliflower with a lime labneh, and a fish special. I’m going to be honest, this was back in December so I don’t remember exactly how I felt about every dish other than there was not a single thing I disliked. We even got dessert: dulce de leche brownie and kahlua bread pudding. Not a disappointment on the table.

The pork chop is the star here, but I thought the cauliflower was great, the salad exceeded expectations (great beets), and the pasta, while not revolutionary, was a very very good substitute pasta dish. And sometimes very good pasta and a large glass of red wine in an intimate environment on the corner of a very cute street is all you need. It’s certainly all I need.
